Fishing videos and pictures of big Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Striped Marlin. Fishing for Marlin is one of the world's most existing game fish for it's speed, size, fight and jumping ability.
The largest of the Marlin species is the Atlantic Blue Marlin where they can reach sizes of over 1,800 pounds (818 kilograms). The smallest of the marlin species is the White Marlin, however, they make up for it in their speed, leaping ability, beauty and the challenging difficulty in catching them.
BLUE MARLIN
World Records: Atlantic Blue Marlin - 1,402 pounds caught - 1992 in Victoria, Brazil. The Pacific Blue Marlin weighed in at 1805 pounds in Oahu, Hawaii.
The Blue Marlin is the most sought after of the Marlin species because of it's size and range. This speices can be found in both the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Oceans. The Atlantic Blue's can be found as far north as the Northeastern United States and as far south as Brazil. The Pacific Blue Marlin range as far north as Japan and as far south as New Zealand.
Blue Marlin have varried diets ranging from small baitfish to large tuna over 100 pounds. Some have even been found with big White Marlin in the stomach.
Main angling destinations for the Atlantic include Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Cape Verde Islands, Portugal, Spain, United States (North Carolina), Venezuela and the Virgin Islands. The main angling destinations in the Indo-Pacific include Australia, Ecuador, Hawaii, New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands of Tahiti and Vanuatu.
Fishing Techniques are more diversed with Blue Marlin compared to all the other Marlin species mainly because of their diet and distribution. All three methods of live bait, rigged natural bait and artificial lures are used.
WHITE MARLIN
World Record: 181 pounds 14 oz in 1979 - Victoria Brazil
The White Marlin are only found in the tropical and temperate Atlantic Ocean waters. They are considered the smallest of the Marlin species and are premier light tackle gamefish.
White Marlin mainly feed on schooling baitfish such as sardine, herring and mackerel, but the larger White's will take on smaller tuna species.
Main angling destinations for White Marlin include Brazil, United States (North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland) and Venezuela.
BLACK MARLIN
World Record: 1560 pounds in 1953 - Cabo Blanco, Peru
Black Marlin are mostly found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The diet of the Black Marlin is similar to the Blue marlin where they will take small baitfish to larger tuna.
Main fishing derstinations of the Black Marlin include Mozambique, Africa, Australia, Ecuador, Mexico and Panama.
Fishing techniques include live bait, dead baits and artificial lures where rigged dead baits being the most common method.
STRIPED MARLIN
World Record: 494 pounds in 1986 - Tutakaka, New Zealand
As like the Black Marlin, the Striped Marlin are found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The main fishing destinations for the Striped Marlin are Australia, Ecuador, Kenya, Mexico and New Zealand.
Fishing techniques include live bait such as mackerel and scad near the surface. When Marlin have been spotted, slow trolling near the fish appears to be effective.
